Mr Mo Akmal

Mr Mo Akmal MD is the Medical Director of The Harley Street Hospital and one of London's leading orthopaedic spinal surgeons. He leads the clinical team, setting the standards of care, safety and innovation for which the hospital is known.

A graduate of Imperial College London, Mr Akmal completed his spinal fellowship training at Oxford and is internationally renowned for his expertise in managing spinal trauma and degenerative spinal disease. A pioneer of day-case spinal surgery, his specialist interests include minimally invasive spine surgery, laser discectomy, spinal injections, kyphoplasty, disc replacement and spinal reconstruction.

With more than 30 years of experience, he is a trusted second-opinion specialist for leading insurers and the preferred spinal surgeon for many of London's top clinicians, with patients referred to him at a tertiary level from across the region.

Under his direction, our spinal service has grown into one of the world's leading specialist spine units, seeing upwards of 5,000 spine patients every year — many travelling from across Asia, Africa, Europe and the USA. Getting each patient the right diagnosis and the best possible outcome remains the guiding principle of the service, supported by rapid access to consultations and imaging, often within two weeks.
